Published to accompany the exhibition What Quilts Carry: Eighteen Years of Quilting at KCAI, this catalog celebrates the work of 27 alumni of the Kansas City Art Institute’s Quilts: More than the Sum of Their Parts course, taught by Kim Eichler-Messmer (me!) since 2008.
Each artist began with the same traditional quilt sampler and went on to develop an individual approach to materials, process, and form. Bringing together reflections and current work by these artists, the catalog explores how a shared starting point can lead to a remarkable range of creative possibilities.
A celebration of quilting, artistic growth, and the ideas we carry forward through making.
